According to the India Skills Report 2025, published by the Times of India, only 54.81% of graduates in India are employable at industry standards. The report highlights that the challenge is not a lack of technical knowledge. Instead, many young people struggle with communication, adaptability, confidence, and workplace readiness. While they possess degrees and technical skills, they often lack essential soft skills such as leadership, communication, teamwork, and problem solving. CYDA’s Youth4Change initiative supports the holistic development of young people. The initiative provides a platform where youth can learn, grow, and develop the skills needed to become confident, independent, and responsible citizens. This article shares the inspiring journey of a young girl whose life changed through this initiative.
Dakshyani Daptari, a first-year student at SNDT College of Home Science, joined the Youth4Change programme through the Gender Equality Club. The club is formed to challenge age-old gender stereotypes and promote a society where everyone is treated equally. Before joining the program, Dakshyani was a shy and hesitant young girl who constantly doubted her abilities. She lacked confidence, especially while speaking in front of others or taking responsibility for tasks. Fear of failure often held her back, and she preferred staying within her comfort zone rather than expressing her opinions openly or stepping into leadership roles.
Everything began to change slowly after she joined the program. The workshops on leadership and gender equality introduced her to new ideas, meaningful discussions, and opportunities for personal growth. Although she initially felt nervous and uncertain, she started actively participating in the activities. During her first workshop, she shared her opinions with the class for the first time. This experience made her feel confident and encouraged her to express herself more freely.
Her participation in the leadership camp organized at BAIF, Warje, Pune, became another important step in her journey. There, she interacted with different people, learned about the qualities of a good leader, and participated in various activities and performances. Each experience gradually pushed her beyond her limitations and helped her discover her hidden potential.
She conducted Samanata ki Daud activity at the International Women’s Day Celebration. Dakshyani took the initiative at the Yuvak Yuvati Mela during the Sanskrutanubhav Program, where she confidently handled responsibilities and interacted with participants. Traveling independently for different sessions and programs was a completely new experience for her. Surprisingly, it filled her with excitement, freedom, and self-belief. She also attended the Y-Talks program in Mumbai, which further inspired and motivated her

The program offered several engaging social actions and interactive activities, including brain games, logical thinking challenges, and team-based exercises. These activities were not only enjoyable but also deeply enriching. They helped Dakshyani improve her communication skills, strengthen her problem-solving abilities, and understand the importance of teamwork. With every activity she completed, her confidence continued to grow.
One of the biggest changes in her was her ability to take responsibility without fear. Earlier, even small tasks felt overwhelming to her. However, the supportive and encouraging environment of the program motivated her to step forward and try new things. As she successfully completed different responsibilities, she slowly realized her true potential. The fear that once controlled her transformed into courage, confidence, and determination.

The sessions on leadership and gender equality left a lasting impact on her life. They taught her the importance of equality, respect, and raising one’s voice for what is right. More importantly, they helped her recognize the leader within herself and inspired her to contribute positively to society.
Her dedication, growth, and active participation were recognized when she received the Best Leader Award at Y-talk-Mumabi, an achievement she cherishes with immense pride and gratitude.
Today, Dakshyani stands as a confident, independent, and responsible young woman. She no longer hesitates to take on challenges and now approaches every responsibility with positivity and self-assurance. Her journey with CYDA not only helped her develop leadership skills but also transformed her personality, broadened her vision, and empowered her to believe in herself.
