Background

Born in a small town in Maharashtra, Shridhar Sanglikar, alias Aniket Aina, always embraced his feminine identity. Raised in a middle-class Hindu family, Aniket embraced his feminine identity from a young age, something that was not always accepted by the world around him. Despite holding a B.Com degree, Aniket found it difficult to secure an appropriate job. His personality, became an obstacle to his professional success. This constant struggle for Aniket was difficult, leaving him isolated and misunderstood. Some boys mocked his feminine nature, further adding to the emotional toll.
“I always knew I am different – says Aniket with a huge scould not see past my femininity. I faced rejection and teasing, even from people who should have been my support system.
Challenges
Aniket’s life had always been filled with challenges, but everything changed when he discovered his family’s sewing business. His father, a skilled tailor, introduced him to the intricate art of stitching ladies’ garments. This newfound craft became more than just a skill—it offered him a creative outlet and a deep sense of purpose. However, the path was far from easy. Financial instability loomed over him, making it difficult to invest in his passion. Moreover, without formal business training, expanding his skills into a profitable career seemed like an uphill battle. Despite his dedication and hard work, the uncertainty of the future weighed heavily on him. His income remained insufficient to turn his dreams into reality, leaving him searching for ways to overcome the obstacles ahead. Yet, amidst the struggles, Aniket held on to hope, determined to transform his passion into a sustainable livelihood.
The support of CYDA: A New Beginning
Aniket’s life took a significant turn when a friend introduced him to the Centre for Youth Development and Activities. Seeing an opportunity for growth, Aniket willingly enrolled in CYDA’s training program, which completely transformed his perspective on business. Through this program, he not only learnt the technical aspects of running a business but also gained valuable insights into financial management, marketing, and the importance of saving for the future. “The training gave me the tools to believe in myself,” he recalls.
One of the biggest breakthroughs came when CYDA awarded him a grant of Rs.10,000/-. With this financial support, Aniket was able to purchase a high-quality sewing machine, an investment that changed the course of his business. “The new machine was a turning point,” he says with pride. “It saved me from the frustration of constant breakdowns and made my work faster and easier.” This upgrade allowed him to take on more orders, especially during the festive seasons when the demand for ladies’ garments surged. With improved efficiency and better equipment, Aniket’s business grew steadily, helping him move closer to his dream of becoming a successful entrepreneur.
Overcoming Societal Biases
However, despite his growing success, Aniket’s journey was filled with challenges, as he continued to face societal biases and doubt about his work. Many questioned his ability to thrive in the garment industry, traditionally dominated by established businesses. Yet, instead of allowing these harsh judgments to discourage him, Aniket chose to rise above them, proving that determination and passion could overcome any obstacle.
His resilience and dedication gradually paid off. With improved skills and a stronger business mind-set, his monthly income steadily increased from Rs.5,000/- to Rs.20,000/-, especially during peak festive seasons when demand for ladies’ garments soared. The training and support he received played a crucial role in his journey, helping him build self-confidence and refine his business strategies. As he gained experience, he learnt to manage his finances more effectively and attract a loyal customer base. Aniket’s unwavering commitment not only strengthened his business but also cemented his place as a skilled entrepreneur, inspiring others facing similar struggles.
“My passion for tailoring became my strength.” CYDA’s training gave me the tools to believe in myself,” Aniket says, reflecting on how CYDA empowered him to build a thriving business and find financial independence.
