Sunil is a young man from Nanded who identifies himself as gay.He lives with his family, who work hard to meet their daily needs. Though it took a little time, his parents eventually accepted his identity with understanding and love. He also shares a strong bond with his two sisters, who have always supported him.

During his teenage years, Sunil realized that his attraction towards men was natural. However, society was not kind to him. Some relatives and neighbours mocked his voice, gestures, and mannerisms. People whispered behind his back and used hurtful words, which deeply affected him. Expressing himself openly as a gay man was not easy.

Since childhood, Sunil knew he was different. While other boys loved playing outdoor games, he found happiness in colours, art, and creativity. Watching his sisters get ready for traditional performances fascinated him. He soon began experimenting with makeup on himself and later on his friends – something that gave him joy and confidence. He also took part in stage performances (Natya Muradnya), which helped him express his artistic side.

When he started offering beauty services like threading, facials, and face packs from home, people discouraged him. Many said it was “women’s work” and asked him to stop. But Sunil didn’t listen. He stayed focused on his passion. What began as a small hobby slowly turned into a professional skill.

A major turning point came when Sunil joined the Entrepreneurship Development Training Program by Centre for Youth Development and Activities (CYDA). Through this program, he learned about managing profit and loss, marketing, customer care, savings, reinvestment, and hygiene practices. The training helped him think like a confident entrepreneur.

CYDA also supported him with a grant of ₹10,000. With this, he bought new beauty products, brushes, creams, and a professional facial machine. Earlier, he could serve only 2-3 clients a day. Now, he handles 6–8 clients daily, earning around ₹18,000 – ₹20,000 per month and even more during festive seasons. The same people who once mocked him now visit his home salon for beauty services and recommend him to others.

“I am deeply thankful to the team for recognizing our potential and helping us dream beyond boundaries. This initiative has made me confident, independent, and proud of who I am. The society that once laughed at me now appreciates my work.” says Sunil with pride.
