In the heart of Pune, amidst the vibrant colours of marigolds and the delicate fragrance of jasmine, blossoms a story that goes beyond every day—a tale of a mother’s unwavering spirit, a dream nurtured against all odds, and the power of support that brings out hidden potential. This is not just about flowers and sacred items; it’s about hope, determination and the journey of a young woman who turned her life around when the odds were stacked against her.
The Beginning of a Storm
Gitanjali’s life began with the struggles many single mothers face—an unexpected life twist that left her to navigate the tough time of hardships alone. After a painful dispute with her husband, Gitanjali found herself not only emotionally shattered but also without a roof over her head. With her two young children—one in the 5th grade and the other in the 1st—she returned to her maternal modest home in Pune, seeking comfort and hope. She was not just fighting for herself; she was battling to create a secure future for her children.
The weight of financial struggles
As the sole provider for her family, Gitanjali faced the tough challenge of managing household expenses while ensuring her children’s education remained uninterrupted. Every rupee mattered and the dream of starting her own business seemed like a distant fantasy—almost impossible because of financial constraints. Yet, it was during this time of despair that she found a drop of hope.
A Shine of Hope
Gitanjali’s mother had spent over 40 years in the flower business, creating a rich tradition of fragrant blooms and colourful garlands. Although Gitanjali had no prior experience, she began helping her mother with small tasks—arranging flowers, packing orders and managing local deliveries. Little did she know that these simple beginnings were the first steps towards something remarkable.
Realizing the potential to expand the business, Gitanjali decided to take a bold step: she started managing Pushp Bhandar, (Flowers stall) adding sacred items to the offerings. It was a modest venture, earning Rs.5,000/- to Rs.10,000/- per month, but it was a start—a lifeline that showed her what could be possible.
A life-changing opportunity
While Gitanjali’s determination was unwavering, she lacked the knowledge and skills needed to scale up her business. This was when Youth Aid Foundation and Coforge joined hands to support her. They introduced her to the Entrepreneurship Development Program—a transformative training designed for aspiring entrepreneurs like Gitanjali. This was a crucial moment and a turning point for her to learn and grow. She actively participated in the training program.
Key Learnings:

- Financial Planning: Managing expenses, saving wisely, and re-investing in her business.
- Business Expansion Techniques: How to diversify her offerings, enhance customer services and create a brand identity.
But beyond the technical skills, the training program truly gave her the confidence. The belief that she was not just a struggling mother but a capable entrepreneur with a vision.

With newfound knowledge and renewed confidence, Gitanjali transformed Pushp Bhandar from a modest venture into a thriving business. She expanded her product line, introduced seasonal flower arrangements and diversified into devotional essentials—catering to a growing customer base across Pune.
Her dedication bore fruit as Pushp Bhandar grew rapidly, attracting loyal customers, increasing sales and establishing a strong reputation in Pune. The business became a stable source of income and also a symbol of hard work.

- Financial Independence: Gitanjali’s business now generates a steady income of Rs.18,000/-, allowing her to provide for her children’s education and well-being.
