Swati Sonawane lived in Sinner, Nashik, leading a life many considered ordinary. She was a dedicated housewife who devoted her time to managing the household and caring for her children. Swati took pride in her role, but deep down, she wished for more. She dreamed of supporting her family financially and becoming a role model for her children. Unfortunately, her lack of professional skills and limited opportunities in her community made achieving these dreams seem impossible.
Society’s expectations confined her to her home, making her feel trapped and unfulfilled. Despite her efforts, she could not find a way to break free from these limitations. Swati’s aspirations remained a quiet longing in her heart, waiting for the right moment to bloom. Her journey is a story of courage, determination, and the desire to rise beyond the ordinary to create a meaningful impact for herself and her family.
A Transformative Journey
Swati’s life began to change when she discovered CYDA’s Non-Traditional Livelihood program. This program was aimed at empowering women by equipping them with essential skills, confidence, and the resources needed to achieve financial independence. A structured environment was provided, where women like Swati could explore their potential and prepare for new opportunities. Encouraged by her family and inspired by the support offered, Swati decided to take a bold step toward reshaping her future. This marked the beginning of her transformative journey.
Role of NTL program in transforming lives
Swati joined the NTL program feeling both excited and nervous. She wondered if she could succeed but found comfort in the supportive environment at CYDA. The program brought together women with similar goals, which eased her doubts. It offered training in practical skills like communication and professional behavior and focused on building confidence. Swati faced challenges during the rigorous sessions, each skill she learnt made her feel stronger. Over time, her fear turned into determination as she realized her potential to grow and succeed in her new journey.
One of the most impactful aspects of the program was the sharing stories, struggles, and successes of the participants, which created a bond that fueled Swati’s determination.
“Hearing others talk about their dreams made me realize I was not alone,” she reflected. This support system became a cornerstone of her journey.
A new beginning as a bus conductor
Swati applied for a job as a bus conductor with the Nashik City Bus Department. The process was tough, with interviews and paperwork to complete. However, the training she received through CYDA had prepared her well for every step. When she finally got the job, it felt like a dream come true. Her first salary of Rs.15,000/- was more than just money—it marked her transformation from a housewife to a working professional.
Swati’s success inspired many women in her community to pursue their own goals, proving that with determination and support, societal barriers can be overcome. Her children were deeply affected by her journey. Seeing their mother’s independence and confidence motivated them to dream big and work hard for their future. Swati’s success became an inspiration of hope for her community, showing the power of courage and persistence.
Swati expresses her gratitude for the NTL program saying – They gave me the skills and confidence to stand on my own feet and contribute to my family.
Swati’s message to women like her is simple yet profound: “Believe in yourself. The world is full of opportunities waiting for you to grab them.”
Today, Swati stands as a proud working professional, a source of inspiration for her community, and a role model for her children. Her journey is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of education and support. With her story, she not only changed her life but lit a path for countless others to follow.
