Nanda Khairnar, a determined woman from Sinnar Block, had always worked hard to provide for her family. With only a 10th-grade education, she had built her small electrical repair business. Specializing in repairing fans and mixers, Nanda managed to keep her shop running, but there was always something holding her back from achieving her dreams of expanding her business.
Challenges
She was stuck in a cycle of limited opportunities, and while she worked tirelessly, the income she earned never seemed to grow beyond a certain point. The services she offered have been limited because of her narrow skill set, leaving little room for growth or expansion. The lack of advanced skills, business knowledge and resources made it difficult for her to explore new avenues of revenue or even upgrade her business to meet the changing demands of the market.
The Turning Point
The turning point came when CYDA stepped in with a life-changing opportunity. CYDA, known for empowering grassroots entrepreneurs, saw Nanda’s potential and enrolled her in a comprehensive training under Non-Traditional Livelihood program. This intervention would equip her with skills, knowledge and resources needed to develop her business. She learnt the art of negotiation, customer service, and even how to manage her time more efficiently. Nanda received hands-on instruction in Wash Mitra and LED bulb making. This new skill set opened doors to a completely different market—LED bulbs were in high demand, and Nanda could now manufacture them herself. This diversification was key to her business’s growth. It allowed her to cater to a broader customer base, move beyond repairs, and enter the manufacturing industry.
3.Entrepreneurship Development Program
CYDA also partnered with the Youth Aid Foundation to offer a specialized Entrepreneurship Development Program. This part of the training was focused on marketing, business planning, and strategies for sustainable growth. Nanda learnt how to position her business in the marketplace, effectively manage her finances, and develop long-term business goals.

One of the most significant aspects of CYDA’s support was the provision of practical resources. Nanda was given a toolkit and raw materials to start her own LED bulb manufacturing unit. These essential resources allowed her to set up her operations without the need for a large initial investment, which had always been a barrier for her before. With the necessary tools in hand, Nanda was ready to put her new skills to work and launch her manufacturing business.

With her new skills and resources, Nanda wasted no time. She quickly set up her LED bulb manufacturing unit, putting everything she had learnt into action. No longer just a small repair shop owner, she is now earning over Rs.15,000/- per month from her new LED bulb business. Her family was finally experiencing the financial stability that had seemed out of reach for so long.
