Introduction: Overcoming Financial Crisis
Jayashree Kiran Bhosale, a homemaker from Sinnar, Nashik, faced a life-altering challenge when her husband, the sole breadwinner, lost his job. The sudden financial crisis left her family struggling with mounting expenses and uncertain prospects for their children’s education. Among these hardships, Jayashree made the bold decision to step beyond her traditional role and support her family. Her journey highlights the pivotal role Entrepreneurship Development Programs play in empowering women to overcome challenges and build sustainable livelihoods.
The Turning Point: Embracing Entrepreneurship
Determined to change her family’s circumstances, Jayashree ventured into entrepreneurship. Encouraged by her brother, she traveled to Lonavala to learn the art of making chikki, a traditional Indian sweet. This marked the beginning of Arya Chikki, her home-based business. However, as a first time,she faced numerous hurdles, including limited business knowledge, lack of marketing skills, and no access to broader markets.
Recognizing the need for structured support and guidance, Jayashree participated in a two-day Entrepreneurship Development Program organized by the Centre for Youth Development and Activities. This program was designed to equip women with the skills and tools needed to grow their businesses and overcome barriers unique to female entrepreneur

The EDP played a pivotal role in Jayashree’s entrepreneurial journey. Designed to empower women by providing practical skills, resources, and knowledge, the program addressed the unique challenges faced by female entrepreneurs. EDP began with foundational training customized to specific industries, like Jayashree’s chikki-making business. The training not only refined her technical skills but also emphasized quality control, ensuring her products met market standards. Many entrepreneurs lack formal business education. Addressing this by introducing essential business management concepts, such as:
- Financial literacy, including budgeting and cost management.
- Operational planning for small businesses.

These lessons enabled Jayashree to plan her production effectively and manage her resources efficiently.
3. Marketing & Branding
The program focused on modern marketing strategies, including the use of digital tools. Jayashree learned to leverage social media platforms and online marketplaces to promote Arya Chikki, expanding her customer base beyond her local community. The Foundation facilitated Jayashree’s participation in trade fairs and exhibitions, such as setting up a stall in Pune.
