Anant Harishchandra Karande, a transgender individual from Pune, has navigated a challenging path filled with societal prejudices and economic hardships that many may never fully comprehend. Despite these obstacles, Anant’s resilience shines through his practical skills and determination. Having completed his 10th-grade education, he specialized in seat, bag repair and mattress making, establishing a home-based business that reflects his commitment to quality craftsmanship and his genuine passion for his work. His journey underscores the significant challenges faced by the transgender community, highlighting the need for greater acceptance, understanding, and opportunities to ensure their inclusion in mainstream society.

Anant gained access to vital vocational training that transformed his approach to business, equipping him with the skills to improve his craft and expand his operations. The turning point came when CYDA facilitated a grant of Rs.10K for raw materials, enabling Anant to make an investment in his business. This support marked a significant milestone in his entrepreneurial journey. Initially earning between Rs.10,000/- and Rs.15,000/- per month, Anant’s dedication and hard work have paid off. He now earns between Rs.20,000/- and Rs.25,000/- monthly. More than just financial progress, Anant has reshaped his perspective on society. He believes that, like the support he received, societal attitudes can change for the better with empathy, understanding, and inclusivity for all individuals.
Proudly reflecting on his success, Anant asserts, “The business is running, and I earn 20 to 25 thousands now,” illustrating the positive transformation in his life. “I am sure that the society members will also change in the same way, as CYDA changed me,” he remarks.
