Solapur Needs Us – Now More Than Ever

While Solapur district was slowly recovering from the devastating floods, it was struck once again. This time, due to relentless overnight rains. In response to the devastating floods in South Solapur Taluka, CYDA’s Disaster Response team carried out a rapid field assessment on 28th September 2025. The sudden release of excess water from the Sina River displaced thousands of people, destroyed farmland, and disrupted basic services. To understand the ground situation, CYDA visited six of the worst-hit villages- Vangi, Vadakbal, Nandur, Samshapur, Mangoali, and Hatnur.

During the visit, the team observes large-scale displacement. Families are forced to leave their homes and take shelter in schools or with relatives. Crops such as sugarcane, onion, and maize are completely destroyed. Livestock losses are heavy, and houses are filled with mud and contaminated water. Many families lose their belongings, including clothes, bedding, and school materials. With limited access to clean drinking water, inadequate sanitation systems, and insufficient health services, the community faces extreme hardship. Several people suffer from fever, cold, and infections.

While interacting with the villagers, the team heard heartbreaking stories. One woman shared, “We have lost everything. See, I have been wearing this saree for two days. All the houses are covered with mud.” Another villager added, “We had no time to save anything…we just ran to save our lives.” Such voices reflected the deep pain and helplessness of the affected families.

Based on these observations, CYDA identified the most urgent needs.

The kits contained ready-to-eat food, blankets, drinking water, and medicine packs to provide quick relief, especially for those suffering from cold, fever, and minor injuries. In addition, 33 blankets and mats were also given to families who had lost their belongings.

Along with distributing essential supplies, CYDA set up a medical camp in the affected villages. The camp provided health check-ups, medicines, and basic treatment to 53 people, ensuring timely care for those in need.
