Life is a journey filled with struggles, triumphs, and self-discovery. For transgender individuals like me, the journey to acceptance and recognition is even more challenging. My name is Mannat Farida Baksh, a proud transgender woman from Nanded, and this is my story of perseverance, self-belief, and the invaluable support I received from CYDA.
From an early age, I knew that I was different, but I also knew that my identity was something I had to fight for. One of the biggest struggles I faced was obtaining official recognition as a transgender individual. The TG (Transgender) Card, which serves as an essential identity document for transgender people in India, was something I longed to possess. However, despite multiple attempts, I faced numerous administrative and technical challenges that kept me from acquiring it. Each rejection was disheartening, making me feel invisible in the eyes of society and the government.
Despite these obstacles, I refused to give up. My determination to be recognized and respected kept me pushing forward. That’s when
I came across CYDA, an organization dedicated to supporting the transgender community and empowering individuals like me. CYDA provided a platform where my struggles were understood, and more importantly, where solutions were provided.
In January 2025, CYDA, in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department, organized a TG Card Camp in Pune. This initiative was a beacon of hope for many transgender individuals struggling with identity documentation issues. Seeing this as a golden opportunity, I wasted no time in participating. The team at CYDA guided me through the entire process with unwavering support. They helped me navigate the complicated procedures, ensured that my documentation was in order, and provided constant encouragement. Thanks to their relentless efforts, I was finally able to secure my TG card successfully.
Receiving my TG card was a life-changing moment for me. It was not just a piece of identification—it was proof of my rightful place in society. It symbolized my official recognition as a transgender woman and a citizen of this country. This document has since opened up numerous doors for me. With my TG card, I now have access to government welfare schemes, employment opportunities, and social security benefits. It has given me the freedom to live my life with dignity and confidence.
My journey was not easy, but CYDA’s unwavering support made all the difference. They not only helped me claim my identity but also restored my faith in the system. Today, I stand proud, knowing that I am recognized, respected, and valued in society.
To all my transgender brothers and sisters still facing challenges, I want to say: never give up. Your identity is your strength, and with perseverance and the right support, you, too can achieve what seems impossible. CYDA has been a guiding light in my journey, and I will always be grateful for their support.
I hope my story inspires others to keep fighting for their rights and to believe in themselves. Recognition and respect are not privileges; they are our rightful claims, and with determination, we can achieve them.
