Embarking on an internship with CYDA was a transformative journey that shaped my perspective on social work, community engagement, and personal development. As a final-year student at Abasaheb Garware College, I had the opportunity to participate in various community engagement programs, leading me to explore internships with different non-governmental organizations. That’s when I discovered CYDA—an organization dedicated to youth empowerment and providing job seekers with enhanced opportunities. Their mission deeply resonated with me, inspiring me to become part of their impactful initiatives.
From the moment I stepped into CYDA, I was captivated by its dynamic environment, filled with passionate individuals working towards the betterment of society. The idea of working in a space that fosters youth development and career growth excited me, and I was eager to contribute in any way possible.
Navigating My Role: From Digital Storytelling to Community Engagement
My internship journey at CYDA began in the social media department, where my primary responsibility was to craft engaging content and manage the organization’s online presence. This role gave me valuable insights into digital communication strategies and the power of storytelling in raising awareness about social issues. Through designing posts, writing captions, and strategizing digital outreach, I developed a deeper understanding of how media can influence change.
As I gained experience, my responsibilities expanded, and I transitioned into a more hands-on role at the community center. Here, I documented case stories—interacting with community members, understanding their unique struggles, and narrating their inspiring journeys. This experience was profoundly rewarding, offering me a glimpse into the resilience and strength of individuals facing adversity. Additionally, I took on the responsibility of teaching Math and English to children at the center. Initially, I felt apprehensive about my ability to connect with them, but as time passed, I realized that teaching was not just about academics—it was about inspiring, motivating, and empowering young minds. Witnessing their eagerness to learn and grow reinforced my belief in the power of education and mentorship.
A New Perspective on Social Issues and Community Development
My time at CYDA significantly deepened my understanding of socio-economic challenges and the importance of grassroots initiatives. Engaging with diverse communities exposed me to the hardships faced by marginalized groups and taught me the value of empathy, patience, and resilience. I learned that true impact comes from listening, understanding, and collaboratively working towards solutions.
One key lesson I gained from this experience was the power of collaboration. Witnessing the CYDA team work together with unwavering dedication inspired me to appreciate the collective effort required to drive social change. I also realized that empowerment goes beyond financial support—it is about creating opportunities, fostering confidence, and nurturing potential.
Applying Lessons Beyond the Internship

The knowledge and skills I acquired at CYDA will undoubtedly shape my future endeavors. Personally, I have become more confident in my ability to engage with people from diverse backgrounds, communicate effectively, and adapt to new environments. Academically, my exposure to case stories has enriched my understanding of social issues, which will aid my research and future projects.
Professionally, my experiences in digital media, content creation, and community engagement have enhanced my skill set, making me more equipped for future roles in journalism and mass communication. Most importantly, this internship has instilled in me a strong sense of responsibility to contribute to meaningful causes and continue working toward social justice.
A Memorable Experience That Left a Lasting Impact
Among the many impactful moments during my internship, one particular experience stands out. On my first day at the community center, I felt overwhelmed by the unfamiliar environment and uncertain about my ability to teach. I doubted whether I could make a meaningful connection with the children. However, as I immersed myself in their stories and engaged with them through case studies, I found a profound sense of purpose.
One day, while interacting with a young girl, she shared how much she enjoyed my classes and how they gave her the confidence to dream bigger. Her words reaffirmed that even the smallest efforts can create significant change. This moment not only boosted my confidence but also solidified my commitment to empowering others through education and storytelling.
Reflections and Looking Ahead
As my internship at CYDA comes to an end, I am filled with gratitude for the incredible learning experience it has provided. The exposure, the challenges, and the opportunities have shaped me into a more empathetic, resourceful, and driven individual. While I do not have any major suggestions, I believe that future interns would benefit from structured mentorship programs and exposure to multiple projects. This would allow them to gain a more holistic understanding of CYDA’s impact.
Looking ahead, I hope to continue my association with CYDA and contribute to its mission in any way possible. This experience has been an unforgettable chapter in my life, and I am eager to carry forward the lessons learned to create meaningful change in my community. CYDA has not only given me professional skills but has also ignited a deeper sense of purpose within me—one that I will cherish forever.
