As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, Navin has overcome societal prejudices with self-love and determination, carving out a space for himself in both life and business.

“I love myself, so I do not notice society’s backbiting,” he confidently asserts, emphasizing his positive mind-set and determination to pursue his passion despite challenges.

A journey rooted in faith

Growing up in a family where faith played a central role, he developed a deep admiration for traditional artistry. While his academic pursuits in commerce and mechanical engineering provided him with technical knowledge, his heart was always drawn to creative expressions of devotion. Living as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, Navin faced constant societal judgments but chose to remain steadfast in his belief.

The turning point came when he connected with Centre for Youth Development and Activities, which is known for empowering young individuals through practical training and financial support. Navin’s encounter with CYDA marked the beginning of a transformative phase in his life. He participated in a business training session organized by YouthAid Foundation, which provided him with innovative ideas and practical strategies for growth. The  business training sessions have been instrumental in Navin’s growth, offering insights into business management and growth strategies.

 “The training  gives good thoughts on business, like how to grow our business and what is suitable,” Navin shares, underscoring the practical knowledge and confidence he gained.

 Financial support  of Rs.10,000/-, enabled Navin to purchase a sewing machine and materials essential for dressmaking. Since launching of his business, Navin has significantly boosted his income by stitching and selling 20 to 25 dresses of Lord Krishna. With these resources, he was able to scale his operations, transitioning from a small-scale endeavour to a structured business. The support he received not only helped him financially but also instilled a sense of responsibility and purpose.

Building a thriving business

CYDA’s guidance extended beyond business training and financial aid. The organization’s inclusive environment helped Navin grow personally as well. As an LGBTQIA+ individual, Navin found acceptance and respect, something he deeply values. This sense of belonging empowered Navin to embrace his identity fully and focus on his aspirations.

He proudly says, “I earned over Rs.5000/-, highlighting the tangible success of his venture. Beyond business support, Navin values CYDA for its inclusive environment and familial support. ” The team is very supportive, and I feel like this is my family,” Navin warmly expresses, underscoring the organization’s role in his personal and professional growth.

The intervention had a multi-dimensional impact on Navin’s life. Professionally, it gave him the tools and confidence to establish and grow his Lord Krishna dressmaking business. Personally, it provided a supportive network that respected and celebrated his individuality.
